Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology

Introduction

The University started operation as a trade school in San Isidro Nueva Ecija on June 7, 1929. It first bore the name Nueva Ecija Trade School (NETS), grew to become the Central Luzon School of Arts and Trade (CLSAT) on May 8, 1953 by virtue of Republic Act No. 845, and later became the Central Luzon Polytechnic College (CLPC) on June 18, 1964by virtue of Republic Act No. 3998. In response to the global challenges posed by emerging scientific and technological expansion, CLPC was converted into the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) on March 27, 1998 by virtue of Republic Act No. 8612.

The NEUST is located in Nueva Ecija at the Central Plains of Luzon, the rice granary of the Philippines. It operates in five major campuses namely: the San Isidro Campus (.55 ha) in the town of San Isidro; the Fort Magsaysay Campus (8.5 has.) in Palayan City; the Sumacab Campus (22.9 has.) in Sumacab Este, Cabanatuan City; the Gabaldon Campus (1,463.32 has.) in the town of Gabaldon; and the Main Campus (1.93 has.) which is at the heart of Cabanatuan City, approximately 118 kilometers North of Manila.

The University offers different Bachelor's degree programs in Architecture, Engineering, Education, Information Technology, Agriculture, Bursing and Business Administration. It also offers Master's degree in the field of Teaching, Management, Business Administration and Engineering Education, while their Doctorate degees are in the areas of Education and Philosophy with different Specializations such as Public Administration, Business Administration, Educational Management and Engineering Management. All program offerings of the University passed the approval of the Commission on Higher Education and majority of the programs have undergone accreditation by the Accrediting Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc.

The Expansion of NEUST is evident not only in terms of program offerings, number of enrollees and land acquisitions, but also in terms of linkages with both local and international entities. With its present students population of around 15,000 and still expanding, NEUST hopes to soon be at the peak of development and excellence.

Overview

NEUST offers the following international programs under its agreement with the Hong Kong Lifelong Education Organization. The programs are offered through the NEUST Cyber Campus.

Course Aims

Doctor of Philosophy

The aim of the PhD program is to enhance the candidate's capacity through advance coursework and research, to become aware of the relationship between research and their professional activities whether in Business or Public Administration, Educational or Engineering Management.

Throughout the program, PhD candidates are expected to make a distinct contribution to the knowledge of chosen degrees program whether through original investigation, review or criticism.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to promote the extension of knowledge and research to serve and develop new and innovative practices in the degree program enrolled in.

Recognition of NEUST Degree

Commission on Higher Education

All programs of NEUST are duly recognized and approved by the Commission on Higher Education in the Philippines.

Ministry of Education in China

NEUST is included in the initial list of the first batch of Philippine Universities recommended by the Ministry of Education in China for students who want to study abroad. The list is posted in the official website of the Ministry of Education in China: http://www.jsj.edu.cn

Courses Structure

Doctor of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration, Educational Management, Engineering Management and Public Administration is built on a 60 credit point structure comprising of two components, i.e., coursework requirement and Dissertation.

Coursework Requirement

The coursework component comprises 48 credit points which is made up of 16 subjects. Students are required to successfully comply with the requirements of each subject prior to the preparation of a Dissertation. An Oral Defense Examination shall be conducted for the Dissertation, which carries a credit point of 12 credits.

Dissertation

The dissertation will be undertaken after the Sixteen (16) coursework subjects have been completed.

Students will be required to prepare a comprehensive research in the field of specialization enrolled in, which will consist of 20,000-25,000 words.

Language of Study

The program shall be conducted by providing study materials and lecture notes in English and write their dissertation or thesis either in English or Chinese language.

Completion Time

The minimum time allowed for a candidate to complete the Doctor of Philosophy program is 12 months, while the average time is 24 months and the maximum allowed is 36 months.

A student who wishes to extend the completion of their respective course must seek permission from the Program Director.

Mode of Study

The NEUST International programs will be delivered through the NEUST Cyber Campus which is implemented through on line study lecture materials and assignments. Study materials include study guides, prescribed textbooks and reference books, reading and/or e-learning materials provided by the University Cyber Campus.

On top of Cyber Campus Hong Kong students undertaking the Dissertation will be provided with Dissertation Supervisors. Students who have completed the Sixteen (16) coursework requirement will be allocated a Supervisor to support their Dissertation work. The Dissertation Supervisors will provide direct supervision in the preparation of their research work until the Oral Defense Examination.

Exemption From Coursework

The University provides the opportunity for candidates to apply for credit exemption on prior learning that includes previous study from recognized institutions. The University can grant a maximum of 12 exemptions from the major and elective courses for the Doctor of Philosophy program.

Forms of Exemption

Block exemption
Exemption granted under predetermined arrangement for postgraduate or professional qualifications. For example, candidates who posses an MBA or other business/ management related postgraduate degrees or relevant professional qualification, e.g. ACCA, HKICPA (or HKSA), CPA or CICPA are eligible to apply for credit exemption from all of the major and elective subjects.

Direct Subject Exemption
Exemption is granted where there is one-to-one, equivalent-level correspondence between the applicant's prior learning and NEUST subjects.

Indirect Subject Exemption
Exemption granted where the prior learning of the candidate is judged to be relevant to the course at the appropriate level but may not directly correspond to specific course subjects. Indirect exemption is usually granted towards meeting the major and elective requirements of the program.

Application For Exemption
Applications for exemption will normally be considered at the time of admission to the program. Applicants are required to inform the University for credit exemption and lodge with the University Hong Kong Office or course local agency together with copies of supporting documents like certificates or transcript of records or other evidence of prior learning.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the International Programs, applicants must have the following qualifications: -

For the Doctor of Philosophy, an applicant must have a Master's degree in Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Public Administration, or other related discipline, or a holder of a Professional Diploma in a related discipline with at least 5 years working experience.

How to Apply

To apply for admission to the International Programs of the NEUST, an application must be completed and lodged with the local agency or NEUST Hong Kong Office. Applications are assessed by and admission decisions are made at the discretion of the University.
